Paul Roberts was recently doing the tourist thing at Mackinac Island, beating the crowds with a springtime visit. He started out at Marquette Park, where the view is spectacular looking toward the marina and St. Anne’s Catholic Church, along with a great view of Fort Mackinac, too. The statue in the middle of the park is Father Jacques Marquette, a French priest who established Catholic missions in the Upper Great Lakes during the late 1600s and discovered the northern reaches of the Mississippi River.
Next we get a look at the Post Office on the Island, located on Market Street. The USPS facility is open Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The fourth photo, Paul took while on a short tour of the Grand Hotel, snapping a selfie in the dining area.
No Mackinac Island visit is complete without a snapshot of the Round Island Lighthouse. It is also known as the Old Round Island Point Lighthouse and is located on the west shore of Round Island. It marks the shipping lanes of the Straits of Mackinac that connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
Today’s Restless Viking video is from a few months back when Chuck and Poppins celebrated their 28th Anniversary with a trip to Mackinac Island, highlighting the Hidden Gems they explored during the off-season on the Island.

Nice set! I couldn’t believe that was New Years Eve, I didn’t see a speck of snow. Thanks for the walk-a-bout. I’ll never get the opportunity to do it, but I’d love to do it in those conditions.

Hi I've been to Mackinac Island many, many times-- Cheboygan, where we have our vacation home is close- -but we've always stayed near the shoreline. So there were things I hadn't seen.
I also got a hoot from the slowly descending New Year's Eve turtle instead of a ball drop.
