Nancy Haun snapped the first three photos of Eagles. I think the first two shots are the same Eagle, but the third may be a different one, as she said these majestic birds are everywhere lately in the L’Anse/Baraga area. The first shot is my favorite, the way it seems to be looking right at Nancy as she’s snapping away. Then in the second photo, you get a good look at the size of it’s beak. No wonder they can snatch small animals and fish right out of the water like they do. Amazing creatures for sure.
The fourth photo comes to us from a newcomer to the Pasty Cam, David Koski and isn’t something you see everyday at your bird feeders. He captured this photo of a Pine Marten on his suet feeder in his Michigamme area backyard. David said that the Marten actually chewed off the very top of the mesh bag and knocked a bunch of the suet off, then proceeded to eat it off the ground. Quite the resourceful little critter.
The Woodsy Introverts are taking us to the Keweenaw Snow Thermometer that measures the snowfall in the Keweenaw each year and then to the Phoenix Cliffs, the spine of the Keweenaw. Lisa ends up taking a tumble through some ice and gets a bit soaked making the video. She says she knew she should have worn her waders!

Nice set! I think the first pic is awesome with those raptor eyes shooting out a; “I’m Ready for a beat-down.” stare. And how did Woodsy get to the top of the snow thermometer… platform shoes?

Eagles are majestic, HUGE birds. There are many in Baraga/L'Anse...The Native Americans sprinkle tobacco on the land, which tells the Creator "Thank YOU for the Eagle".
A Pine Marten on a feeder? Holy wha...they sure know how to grab some chow! That's cool...
Fabulous pictures! How can you go wrong with eagle pics?
Welcome, David! Very cool capture there.

Remember the plants, trees, animal life who all have their tribes, their families, their histories, too. Talk to them, listen to them. They are alive poems.
Great shots Nancy! And i agree, Alex, the first one is fantastic. Welcome, David! I have seen many critters tearing up our birdfeeders but never a pine marten!!! WOW!!! Pine Martens in the area is a sign of a healthy ecosystem but they should get some natural food!
Congrats to head coach Matt Majkrzak of Northern Michigan, who was named GLIAC Coach of the Year. NMU is hosting the GLIAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. NMU won their first game against Purdue NW last night. Go Cats Go!!!!

The Woodsy's video provided a very unique & interesting perspective on The Cliffs.
Is there any other talk yet regarding the chances of setting a new snowfall record, still about 44 inches shy of the previous one?
By George L. (Yooperinct) on Friday, March 8, 2024 - 05:22 pm:
Wondered too about the low snowfall record too, D.A., and also is there any talk UP there about maybe the Soo locks opening soo-ner than later due to the lack of ice? Might help the overall economy.
You guys/gals don't sell your snowmobiles due to this winter's frustration......you'll be happy you didn't next wintah, methinks! Heikke Lunta still resides in the UP!

George, you are correct. Here's the announcement:
The Soo Locks will open a few days early this season, kicking off the 2024 Great Lakes shipping season at 6 p.m. on March 22.
