Joanne Furton is always looking for something fun and different to photograph and with today’s photos I think she found some winners. She said she got the idea from another Michigan photographer and decided that as long as we were having some cold mornings, she’d give it a shot. The first four photos were actually her second attempt, done on a frigid morning and Joanne was so focused on capturing the photos and video that she almost got frost-bitten fingers. She didn’t mention the temperature, but that last photo was from her first attempt when it was around 20°, right after sunrise.

Here’s the recipe Joanne used for the bubble mixture, in case you’d like to try freezing bubbles:

1 cup of water
4 Tbls Dawn dish soap
3 Tbls glycerin (found by the band aids at the store)
2 Tbls sugar

The video Joanne made, shows how quickly the freezing happens when it’s cold outside! I like that you can see the bubble moving with the wind that morning, right at the beginning.

These are great! All of the
pictures and video were so cool.
Thanks for doing that.

That is so neat! Am going to the grocery store today anyway, will be adding glycerin to the list!

How incredibly stunning. WoW!

Interesting and innovative pix!
Is Dawn used in the morning only?
And if you’re behind, should you use Gain?
Do you use Comet during a meteor shower?
And if you’re soaking in it, should you use Palmolive?
If you’re using a dishwasher, you’re up a creek
so use Cascade.

Stacey Leeson from southern Lower Michigan has perfected this technique of photographing frozen bubbles. I see her work on the national weather broadcasts all the time.

Oh boy, Alex; I see you brought the "pun"ishment today! ;-)

Sorry about that Capt., I hope I didn’t
burst your bubble. :-(

Amazing pictures!!

Right on cue:

The Upper Peninsula is going to be flat-out snowy, even in the southern half. The heaviest snow will fall in the Lake Superior snowbelt over the eastern half of the Upper Peninsula. Snowfall of 6 inches to 12 inches is likely
