The Calumet Copper Kings hockey team recently had a “Skate with the Kings” event for the 3rd grade CLK elementary class. Brita Haapala was on hand to capture some of the fun! That’s Brita’s daughter in the first and second photos, with a skating trainer to help her balance and also in the bottom photo with her friend.

Calumet Schools posted the following about the event: “Those young men did an OUTSTANDING job with the littles. Their patience and kindness left us in awe, truly. They could have chosen to just show up, lace up, and skate. They didn't. They interacted with the kids. They helped several learn how to skate who had never been on ice before. They played games with the kids. They skated around holding hands with the groups of adoring young ladies that kept following them. They showed them jerseys and had them vote on which one they liked best. Today, those gentlemen showed the heart of who it is to be a Copper King. Thank you all for leadership that helps to create the kind and caring human beings that we had the privilege to spend time with today.”
What a joy it is to hear good things our young people are doing, we don’t always hear about the good stuff. Way to go, Copper Kings!

Alexis Dahl has a new video out, it’s about the logging industry, which is big here in the U.P. In her lead-in she mentions that she likes forests, so logging has made her feel squirmy on the inside, so she decided to go to camp to learn more about it all. Alexis thanks Michigan Tech for supporting her video, and gives many thanks to all of the students she talked to, for teaching her about their fields! Tune in as she shares what she learned.

So nice to see kids out there, getting a little
exercise and fresh air instead of sitting at home
with the TV or video games. Thanks fit sharing
these.

Good on this skating program. Nice to see it.

I used to love skating as a kid, then somewhere along the way I lost the ankle strength required. Or maybe it was my upper body mass increased too much? I can still roller skate though, but I don't anymore due to fear of falling wrong.

Looks like I've got some catching up to do with Alexis' videos.

This is so awesome.."A kid on ice, is never in hot
water"...I heard that so long ago, and it is the
truth. This is so gorgeous...the guys teaching the
kids...the lil' girls following the young men...
(their first crush...what FUN!!) This is so beyond
cool....

And then we get some Alexis....beautiful. That girl
just rocks. She finds her stuff from the pros! Darn
impressive!

Nice ice pix, but no tooth picks???
It’s amazing what you can do with
wood and the different academic
studies one can get involved in.
I think that if this had known about these
when I was young, I may have gotten
involved in one.
Wood’a, could’a, should’a

When I was younger
I wish that I knew what I know now
When I was stronger”
