This past week at Calumet Waterworks Park (a.k.a. Bucky’s), was the place to be if you wanted to see some ice on the shore and in the waters of Lake Superior. It’s one of Judy Byykkonen’s favorite places and she loves to take her dogs there to run. Judy captured some spectacular photos of the ice floes, pancake ice and a unique ice arch with views looking through to the Big Lake and a closeup look at the icicle ceiling, too. You can even see one of her “girls”, Zelda on top the icy arch and check it out, even with all that ice on the water, you can still look for agates as the rocks are not all covered with ice yet. I mentioned yesterday, that the weather has been unseasonably warm here, in fact I think we even broke records for high temperature a few days back. The forecast for the rest of the week looks to be warmer than normal, too, so this ice pictured here today, may not be sticking around, although the cold temps of Lake Superior will preserve much of it.

Today, Cody J. McClellan takes us on a tour of the Frozen North in today’s video spot. The lead-in says:
“Today, we take a short road trip up north to the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan for this beautiful winter day! Lake Superior was cold and magnificent with ice formations + wave patterns. The wildlife (deer) was awesome to experience and they even said hello to the camera! And the breathtakingly serene nature and landscapes of this wild region did NOT disappoint!”

Great pictures as always, Judy. I love Bucky's,
but I'm a summertime visitor. But we have you to
show it to us in the winter.

I loved the video, too. I hope some of those deer
were our daily visitors and that they're safe.

Cool pics! The fourth one reminds me of a
photo taken years ago. It looked like the fourth pic,
but it had much more color and it was a sunny
day. I think it was called The Superior Monster.
Nice video too with a perfect blend of music
and the sound of the waves.

Hi
The 4th photo, titled Looking Through", did make me
think we were looking out of monster's mouth.

The video was very nice. I'd be interested in what
time of day it was taken. Based on the tints in the
clouds in some shots, it was taken either around
sunrise or sunset.

I just drool when I see rocks like that. I loved
picking agates...but can't anymore. But the
drooling still happens!

Great shots today and I'm getting better, I even
recognized Zelda before reading below. Pretty soon
we'll need an update from Fritz as well. :=))

The video was fantastic, nice to see healthy
looking deer. I echo the words of my music lovin
Brother, Alex, very fitting with the waves and the
majestic looking body of water in the wintertime.
Suggesting, I'm here, not frozen but just look
don't attempt getting too close this time of
year!!

Lastly, any update on the trails? Is there enough
snow for steady grooming and are the tourist up
spending some money and keeping those business's
going? I sure hope so, they certainly depend on
them!!
