On days that Debbie Jarve isn’t heading to Houghton for work, she is still out and about, doing a bit of exploring. On the day she snapped these shots, she was out for a frosty walk around Calumet Lions Park that borders Calumet Lake. Debbie has a knack for taking photos that are pleasing to the eye, starting today with the bulrushes. I’m not sure why, but I always love the looks of them and with a bit of frost touching them, even better. As she continued on her walk, she captured the white frost on various treasures of nature. I’m not sure if those are mountain ash berries in the fifth photo, but that shot really caught my eye, too. Whatever kind of berries they are, I’m sure the birds will be happy to snack on them. Thanks for the nature walk, Debbie!

Today’s video is from the Discovering library. Kristin Ojaniemi joins Bass angler and guide Connor Baccus, from Lake Linden, for some ice fishing. Then she takes a look look back at historic snowstorm photos with Jack Deo of Superior View Photography.

Appetizing set! Love the corn dogs in
one and two pics and the berries in number five.
Puts me in the mood for some Coney Island
hotdogs topped with strawberries for breakfast.
Nice video too. Speaking of snow storms, we’re
expecting one tomorrow…a whooping 4 inches!
What will we do, how will we cope?

I love everything getting frosted..it's so
gorgeous. And I'm so addicted to Discovering...the
show was awesome, and those old snow pics...holy
wha. We sure used to get snow....BRING IT ON...come
on Heikki Lunta! Get that snow dance song kicking!

Donna, I'm in northeastern CT and Mr Lunta visited us yesterday to the tune of 11 inches at my house. I'll be buying him a one-way on a Greyhound back to the Copper Country today, so keep an eye out for him, eh?

And we got electricity...good thing...just
think..back in the day, the bull rush was dipped in
animal fat and used as a torch for light!

And seeing as I'm back in the day...I was watching
some show...that before the country became the
country, and it was still wild, RIVERS were the
roads!

Fantastic video!
When Mother Nature holds the brush it always seems to turn out beautiful.
But then it must be captured.

Growing up, we always called them Cattails.
Feeling the need for an education, I turned to "The Google", but it was not returning consistent results. Some say there's definitely a difference between the two, plus the Bulrush crowd seemed more confident or at least more specific. I'm switching teams once more.

Donna,

I'm totally in sync with you & the old snow pictures. I just missed the 78,79 record year but all of my preceding years in The Keweenaw saw annual numbers well into the 250's. Maybe this is why I HATE snow now? I think this December set a new record for the least amount. The annual amounts have clearly been coming down for some time.

We're supposed to get 7 to 10 tonight and it's coming down pretty good yet strangely, I had two Robins in my tree today??
