Nancy Haun and her hubby like to get out for a drive in the Skanee area when the weather is good, just to see what they can find. On this day, they found some Lake Superior treasures...sandstone decorating her shoreline quite nicely. There’s so much of it there, makes you wonder if there is a quarry nearby.

They also found some interesting locations along Superior’s shore, like the spot in Nancy’s fourth photo. She called it a Lake Superior hideout and said it goes in about 20 feet at least and the tree roots were over her head as she explored. Interesting how the rock is formed in thin slabs, stacked up on top of each other.

Then they stopped at the location in the fifth photo. Nancy said she was told by a local, that 50 years ago or so, this was a spring fed pool where freshly caught fish from Lake Superior were kept cool in the fish trap off on the right side of the photo. They’d put the trap in the cool water of that pool, where the fish would stay cold and fresh until the fishing was done for the day. She said that trap has been sitting there for many years now. Of course the pool was deeper back then, so the trap could be submerged. Back in the day, folks were quite resourceful.

Since were looking at creeks and pools of water, let’s head back north to Copper Harbor and Fort Wilkins State Park with Steve Brimm for a look at the creek near the park, flowing at almost spring time levels, due to the amount of rain we had off and on last week. An interesting “sprwinter” (springtime in winter) we’ve been experiencing.

Love all of these. So nice to see at this time of
year. And I love seeing the open water there.

Very nice set! But then I’m not surprised,
it’s Nancy Haun. Regarging the first three pics,
my first thought was snow, but then realized
it was sand. They’re both four-letter S words,
so that will have to do for now.
And the next two pics…what a beautiful find.
I could watch that relaxing video all day,
all night and twice on Sundays. Make sure
your sound is turned up. And is that a small
waterfall that I see way in the back? How
cool is that?
Thank you Nancy and Steve for these gems!!!

I agree with all my friends above, just beautiful!
