Today’s chilly, icicle photos from 906 Images, were taken on a cold, below freezing morning recently, after the waves had washed ashore and coated things with icicles that sparkle in the early morning rising sun. Winter may be long and cold around these parts, but oh my goodness, the beauty can still be found just about everywhere you look.

We’re way behind in the snowfall for this winter season, so I thought maybe this video from Visit Keweenaw might help get the snow making machines from above working again. The video lead – in says: “Each winter, riders from across the Midwest make a trek to a remote peninsula in the heart of Lake Superior in pursuit of white gold and hundreds of miles of sledding trails. Follow along as we hear from the locals about what makes Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula a bucket-list destination for snowmobilers.” They recorded this two years ago and John Dee is featured talking about the weather. He’s missed for sure, along with his forecasting, but it’s so nice to see him on this video, doing what he always did best. RIP John Dee...

Outstanding post Mary! Can't beat the sunrise shots and the video was spectacular. And to see John Dee when he was healthy talking about the snow was wonderful - thanks for posting that. We never made a Winter trip without checking John Dee first.

Beautiful pictures, as I sit here looking at my
green grass on December 15th. That first shot is
spectacular! I did watch the video and thought
John Dee looked tired. But not having seen him
before, it may have been normal.

OUTSTANDING....beautiful video. Great pics...and
it is pouring rain here in Houghton...the snow I
used to see out back here, is gone. This is just
so darn weird.

Someone get out the Heikki Lunta and start playing
it. lol

And that "White Gold" statement...I worked in
Copper Harbor in 1980...it snowed 44 days in a
row. I thought we were being buried alive. The
business owners were thanking the Snow Gods for
the "White Gold"...no lie....oh to be that age
again, and know what I know now!

Donna, I want to play the Heikke Lunta tune to help the Yoopers out, but if I play it here in northeast Connecticut, we'll be the ones getting the white stuff! Wifey says that I can't play it until Christmas Eve . . .

I first moved to the Keweenaw in 1972 so I well remember all the Heikki Lunta "Hoopla" started just 2 years earlier. Some 20 years later, when I started to regularly travel to Finland, I would occasionally bring up Heikki Lunta.

Most older Finns knew of Heikinpäivä but no one had ever heard of Heikki Lunta (or Hank Snow) of course since it is a new folklore tradition originating in the Copper Country. They all got a good laugh about it though, especially the ones named Heikki.

Here's an audio file (MP3) of the Heikki Lunta song:
