A refresher for you, in case you aren’t sure what Veterans Day is all about: Veterans Day always falls on November 11th, celebrating the end of World War I fighting at 11:00 a.m., November 11, 1918 – The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It’s the day we nationally honor our military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces in all wars.

We are blessed and honored that our local Veterans are active and still serving our community here in Lake Linden-Hubbell. The Vets from the American Legion Post #90 proudly march onto the Lakes Football field for all home Football games, carrying the flag and standing at attention while the Star Spangled Banner is played by the Lakes Band. Everyone in the stands and on the field stays quiet until they have marched off the field and then they’re given a big round of applause, not only for presenting the American flag as they do, but also for their prior service to our country, too.

Without the sacrifice over the decades and centuries of those who served, our Constitution is nothing but words on parchment. It has been their dedication to duty, honor and country that breathes life and real power into those words. It's not the words that protect us. It is the action of these men and women for which we are forever grateful.

That third pic is appropriate for today, the Lakes
came up a bit short today downstate in their playoff
run against Marion. They had a terrific season and
did the town of Lake Linden Proud!! Great job young
men, hold your heads high!!
