We’re touring with Donna MacIntosh and her friend (Hi Lou!), looking at the fall colors. These shots were from late last week. Here in the Keweenaw the color has been behind some of the other areas. Donna shared some photos from the same spot as her first three photos, back on July 10th of this year and we talked about how the location and road got its name: Kowsit Lats. I’ll repeat it here in case you don’t recall or didn’t see that post: “Here’s a little background on the road and how it was named. Back in the mining days, this area was used to graze cattle. With a number of cattle there, that meant there was a good amount of ‘cowpies’ and they give off a smelly odor. According to legend, the Finns had a hard time pronouncing “SH” and “FL” sounds, so the result was Kowsit Lats and that name stuck unofficially as the name of the road. In the 1980’s, local resident Wilbert Salmi constructed his own sign, but about 20 years ago it became the official name for the road and was given its official street sign then, too. What a fun story!”

Donna’s last two photos were snapped at the Mount Calvary Cemetery outside of Lake Linden. There was some decent color there at the time these were taken. Nice that Autumn decorates the cemetery at the precise time that all the decorations on the graves need to be removed.

We have an interesting video from The Restless Viking about how the town of Fayette stopped sex trafficking back in the 1800’s, without the law helping them out. I don’t ever recall hearing or reading this tidbit of information about Fayette fighting criminal gangs way back when.

Nice, Donna! It's so beautiful out now. Glad
you got to get out there for it.

I just love that story. I remember reading
it earlier, but the refresher course was
fun. Thanks!

Thanks Deb!

We also went through the Valley...which had some
beautiful colors too, but my camera got moved to
"Fisheye" and the pics came out a lil funny.

I have never heard of the folks in Fayette...taking
care of their own. It's a fabulous story and we
need these people now!

HI LOU!!

Sweet pix, Donna…way to go girl! I’m so glad
that you’re able to get out and see the beauty.
And that was a cute story once I figured out
the SH and FL.
Now I know why kowsit shmells.

Great set Donna! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. We too have found that cemeteries are colorful in the fall. Maybe because they plant a lot of maples.

Good to see small town people standing up for what is right, even way back then.

NO doubt hey Jbuck...I just love that story. And
thanks too, Alex...YOU know how this MonSter works!
Did you get out? Do you still drive?
