This past week around the U.P., we’ve had some rainy days and we all know that rainy days produce rainbows when the sun peeks out again, so we have five different rainbow shots, from five different photographers. I wonder if that’s some kind of record for rainbows? We start off with an outstanding beauty from Steve Brimm, snapped at the Copper Harbor overlook.

Next is a full arc double rainbow taken by Brita Haapala while out taking senior pictures for a client. She said they had just wrapped up the session when this rainbow appeared.

The third capture was snapped by Jean Dessellier out in Traprock Valley. The colors are so vividly vibrant, just spectacular.

The fourth photo comes from Judy Byykkonen who had just arrived in Marquette to visit her daughter. She said the lighting was perfect out there, so she jumped out of her Jeep to take some pics. It looks like it’s so close to her and again the colors so vivid.

And last, but of course not least, we have Fritz the Wonderdog, kayaking with Jeff Dennis when a rainbow appeared off in the distance. I’m surprised Fritz didn’t grab the camera to snap the shot himself!

So, along with our record number of rainbows today, we have a short video report from Visit Keweenaw on the outcome of Plaidurday this past Friday. It was a huge success. The counters clicked a total of 1,745 people for the group photo in Houghton, MI. The number will be verified in the coming days, but it looks like Keweenaw Plaidurday broke the previous record (1,359, set in 2019 in Kenora, Ontario) for largest gathering of people wearing plaid for a photo. Woohoo!

It’s a “Rainbows are Us” morning.
Looks like the UP won the Powerball.
And “Fritz and the Rainbow” would make
for a good children’s novel.

I was sitting in the bleachers watching the
powder puff game and I couldn't believe the
bright colors. It was so huge and then the
second one showed up. I am never without my
phone. That night I was. Darn it. Nice
photos, everybody. And hooray for
Plaidurday!!

Jbuck, we never made it to Plaidurday. It
was pouring rain in Lake Linden and we
figured it would be canceled. Who knew it
was fine in Houghton. We were all dressed up
in our Plaidurday best, too. Oh well,
there's always next year.
