We join Debbie Jarve for a stop at several places the Autumn colors are bursting out every day. I absolutely love her first shot, taken on the Bear Lake Trail near McLain State Park. It’s just so different, yet it still says FALL. Then we go south for a stop at the Canyon Falls where Debbie snapped a dandy shot with the falls flowing, surrounded by a beautiful array of yellows, oranges and reds in the trees.

Those oak leaves in the third photo were snapped while Debbie was walking on the Calumet Lions Park trails. I like the contrast of the green leaves that haven’t changed yet, with the bright orange and then subtle yellow in the background. Debbie’s last photo was taken on the shores of Lake Superior at McLain State Park. Neat composition with the calm blue of the Big Lake, just about the same hue of blue coloring the sky and that splash of red on the leaves. What a great collage these photos would make, not to mention a perfect way to keep the beauty of the fall season around much longer.

Speaking of colors... tomorrow is Plaidurday! What is Plaidurday? Plaidurday is the Worldwide Celebration of Plaid! The first Plaidurday celebration took place in Michigan on October 7, 2011, and this fun national holiday has taken place on the first Friday of October ever since. The Keweenaw Plaidurday goal is to break the world record for the number of people gathered wearing plaid. The current world record was set in 2019 in Keneora, Ontario and included 1,359 participants. So, grab your coziest flannel shirt or put on your plaid chook and meet us at the Houghton High School Football Field at 12:45PM tomorrow, October 6th, to help beat this record and take a group photo! All participants will receive a special Keweenaw Plaidurday wristband to help track participants and to commemorate this year's Keweenaw Plaidurday.

The Restless Viking is taking us to the Waugoshance Lighthouse in the Straits of Mackinac, just a couple miles off shore in Lake Michigan. Built before the Civil War, it has a long and interesting history.

Just something about Autumn colors and waterfalls than goes together! Thanks Debbie!

It's hard for us to imagine why they would bomb "Wobbleshanks" lighthouse, but back then anything was on the table to help win the War. Still sad.

While i can't be there to help set the record, i will celebrate Plaidurday. Thanks for the reminder Mary!

Nice pix, the first one looks like snow???
Plaid…Och aye!

I agree...at first, I thought "snow?"

LOVE the Restless Viking stuff...they go on such
cool adventures.

That's so cool on the Plaidurday stuff...There's a
local battle as well...Ironwood, Marquette and
Houghton are having one....

Maybe it was similar to a Rorschach test, like the ink blots, but my first reaction to the top photo was the pond is littered with dead Monarch butterflies. Too dark?

Still a good deal of green left.

Beautiful photos. I, too, love oak leaves.
All gorgeous shots. We were just at Canyon
Falls and the ground is a carpet of leaves.
Gorgeous.
We're going to Plaidurday. I hope the
weather's nice. It's hailing pretty good out
there right now. But it should be fun.

Hi
I think they bombed Waugoshance Lighthouse because
it was a safer place to train and test equipment
than the Atlantic or Pacific oceans during World War
II.
