The Houghton Waterfront is blooming this time of year. Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek enjoyed a walk on the waterfront recently, taking in all the beauty planted there in gardens along the way. Lots of work goes into beautifying this area, from the planting of the flora, to the weeding and care. I would imagine there must be a crew that waters them all summer long, too.

So I did a little digging and found that there is a City of Houghton Beautification Committee, which states that it is a “volunteer organization created to enhance the natural beauty of our community with gardens and art.”. The page also mentioned how their small group is joined by several smaller groups that adopted gardens on the path that they care for, but the committee takes care of the weeding and watering of all the other flower gardens. What a wonderful way to welcome folks to the waterfront. Click on the link above if you have a green thumb and want to get involved, you’ll find some contact information there.
