This past Friday there was an absolutely beautiful sunrise rainbow that graced the Copper Country to start that day. It actually was the only bright spot, as the rest of the day it rained, which we needed as things were quite dry and our gardens needed the moisture. We start the rainbow parade with a photo from Nathan Parker. Nathan actually starts every Friday morning with a sunrise or early morning shot from Houghton that he shares with friends. This one was quite exceptional with the complete arc of the rainbow and the pink sky from the rising sun.
The next two shots were snapped by my brother-in-law, John Drew. The rainbow photo was taken looking west and the picture with the weird clouds was looking east. I’m guessing the clouds were perhaps the rain already forming in the air, just waiting to reach the ground, since it wasn’t too long after these were taken that the rain started.
The fourth photo was taken in Bootjack, by Dawn Pichette before she headed out for her drive to work. The clouds were already obscuring part of the rainbow, but you can see the double and the colors in both, while the sunrise was brightening the sky and the water below.
And last, but not least, is a picture of the double arc of color from Kimi Williams. Isn’t it beautiful how the inner portion of a rainbow arc is usually brighter, like it’s holding in the light to illumine all the colors. Thanks to all our sunrise photographers today!
Now we join Andrea Guerriero in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, for an interview with Captain Hein’s wife, Mary. Andrea and Mary were on the West Pier, watching the Philip R. Clarke arrive on their way to Indiana Harbor, loaded with iron ore. Mary Hein was waiting to go on board the Clarke to join her husband for their 30th Anniversary cruise. She talks with Andrea about what it’s like to live in a family with a mariner both as a young girl (her Dad also sailed) and as the wife of a Captain on a freighter, being away as much as he is. Stay tuned for what Andrea calls a wicked, awesome Master Salute with a ‘Woohoo!’ for his wife and Andrea, when he was done.

These are all fabulous, but the Bootjack one is my favorite.

You know...TV6 news said there was a rainbow at the Portage Lake Liftbridge...so I went on the Tech webcams site, and clicked on the bridge one, and no rainbow. Sniff. I wasn't gonna run down in my jammies to look! lol The pics are so stunning!
All rainbows are double rainbows. You may not see it, but it's there.
