Jeff Dennis recently captured the first two photos in Lake Linden and almost had an encounter with Momma Bear, even though he was sitting in his truck. He said while he was snapping photos of the cubs in the tree, he noticed Mom in the brush when she started coming toward him, so he quickly rolled up his window. But no worries, she just crossed the road in front of him. Then the two cubs climbed down the tree and followed Mom. Jeff’s video below shows them in action as they were making their descent.
The bottom two photos come to us from Cindy Griffin and were taken just a few blocks away from Jeff’s photos. Cindy was able to get a close-up photo of Mom and the cubs from inside the house as the trio walked through the back yard. Then she spied the cubs back UP a tree again.

Great pics & videos!! Nice to see the bears out and moving around. I miss the old bear pits/dumps, lol.

These bears are getting much too bold. U.C., if you live in Lake Linden, it's really not that great seeing these thing around. If they stuck to middle of the night visits it'd be fine. But they've been spotted in neighborhoods in the middle of the afternoon. And one spotting was just one street over from us. I don't mind the deer, but these bears can be dangerous. Great pictures, though.

AWESOME pics!
Back in the day, I went to the post office, while I lived in Newberry. One local gent yelled "Donna, come here"...I walked over to his truck, he reached in and turned around and handed me a cub in a pamper. What a little love! He wrapped his legs around my neck and waist, like a little human...he was just awesome. But he stunk. lol
Then a couple months later, a friend came down to visit, and we went out to see the cub. It was about 6 mos old then, and Dean had built a beautiful log home with a huge circular staircase in it, and there was the cub...chewing on the bottom step. Dean's wife rolled up a magazine and whacked it in the butt. That lil dude turned around, got up on his hind legs and gave a holler, and Jewel told him "Go get in the corner"...and he marched over to the corner and stood there with his head to the wall. Just the most darling thing.
And that's when Dean told us "if you are nice to a bear, he'll be nice to you. If you are mean to a bear, he's gonna be a bit meaner, to show you who's boss", and now they own Oswald's Bear Ranch in Newberry. No clue how many bear he's got now, but at one time there were 65 of them there.
The Ranch should be open, and if you go now, the cubs are new! https://www.oswaldsbearranch.com/

Deb, you mean you're not dabbing honey behind each ear when you go for a walk?? :=))... JK
I guess I meant in the sense that, mom & cubs look healthy, is nice to see. Wonder if anyone is feeding them, bringing them into town?
Around here in S.E. MI, I have to worry about Coyotes and my dog. I have 3 portable marine cans/ horns strategically placed around my home. They are so loud but they do the job, neighbors I'm sure love them too, lol. Amazon sells them for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them or increasing the capacity of your 9MM magazine! ;-)
