There was a bit of fog along the Portage Canal on Monday and Debbie Jarve was on hand to capture it and the Ranger III parked at the Houghton dock. Hopefully if the Ranger was heading out to Isle Royale, the sun will have burned off the fog on Lake Superior for them to have a smooth sailing. Passenger service to the Island on the Ranger doesn’t begin until May 30th, but they do make trips over with workers and supplies before then.

Debbie also recorded a video spanning along the Portage Canal, so we can see the fog hanging over Ripley and beyond. Looks like it was hugging the land this morning, rather than shrouding the entire canal.

Hard to believe it was 20 years ago the Silver Lake dam gave way - and flooded everything downstream. Seems like it was yesterday with emergency crews everywhere and the city begging people to conserve energy because of the damage to the power plant.
