One of Debbie Jarve’s favorite ways to relax, is to get out and photograph scenes around the Keweenaw. She takes us on a mini tour of winter around Lake Superior today, showing the ice covered shoreline rocks and a lonely tree standing tall on the banks of the Big Lake. Debbie adds a bonus shot of the Swedetown water towers peeking out over the trees near Calumet. I don’t know the history of these old style water towers, but I do know that they are definite landmarks in the Calumet area, which many of the Swedetown skiers and snowshoers on the trails know well.
We get a lesson in snowflakes from the Old Farmer’s Almanac in today’s video, with editor Catherine Boeckmann discussing why snowflakes are almost always different and the many types of snowflakes. She talks about two identical snowflakes caught in 1988 by a cloud physicist. Interesting info right here...

No two are alike yet they all fall together. No two people are alike…
yet we fall apart. Let’s chill.

Thank Mary!
Missed this one last night. Beautiful pictures Debbie! Interesting info on the snowflakes too - not just why they form 'normally' but all the other shapes too - never knew!

Great pictures, Debbie. I can't even pick a favorite because they're all so good and different. It sure is cold out there. It seems we're going to have a real winter February, so unlike what we had in January. Thanks for getting out there and shooting these for us.
