The main drag through Laurium is M-26, also known as Lake Linden Avenue. Judy Byykkonen was on hand when the Laurium Department of Public Works crew was out recently widening the highway, making room for more snow to come, since it is only January after all. They come along the sides of the road with their Oshkosh Snowblower shooting the accumulated snow into the dump trucks and then the dump trucks haul it away to a dump spot on the outskirts of town. It’s like a choreographed dance routine and they do it so well.

Judy also recorded a video, so you can see the crew in action. She adds that she is so thankful for Laurium’s Department of Public Works. Many of our local village crews do this same dance when the snowbanks get too high and wide. Our Yooper folks know how to manage all the snow we get... so a BIG THANK YOU to all the village, township, county and state crews that keep our streets and roads open all winter long, even out there on holidays like Christmas Eve and Morning this past year.

There’s some teamwork involved in that two-man operation. I

wonder if they ever nod off.

Scenes like the second pic and I've certainly seen
firsthand blow my mind, those snowbanks look like
another world for goodness' sake!! lol

Alex, if they nod off, they might spit out a fender
or fire hydrant!! lol

Yes, quite the tag team operation for sure.

I always said, when our plow men are done...you
can't get a teaspoon of snow. They are beyond
outstanding and work so hard~

I love watching these guys cleaning the
streets like this. I lived away from here
for so long and there isn't anybody who
knows how to clean the streets the way they
do here. At first I remember being just
shocked that nobody knew how to do it. Hats
off to our road cleaning crews. They are
awesome!
