The full moon this month was on Wednesday, December 7th, but it appeared to be full the day before and several days after that. It was known as the Full Cold Moon and if you were up late at night or early in the morning during that time, you noticed that it was quite bright out, almost like daylight. We have several photographer’s shots in various places, of that beautifully bright orb in the sky. We start in Chassell with Beth Jukuri who said she bundled up and went out in the early morning to snap that first photo and was certainly glad she did. The moon was shining so brightly that it even created shadows with the trees.

The next moon photo comes from Jeff Dennis who snapped the moon as it was just rising between City Hall in Lake Linden and the building next door. Look how big the moon is in this shot, it’s huge compared to the windows on City Hall and the Christmas tree in front. That moon...is what Jeff titled his photo, it pretty much says it all.

The third photo was taken by Diane Richard in L’Anse. That’s her neighbor’s tree all lit in red and the moon is shining in the upper left shedding extra light on the tree lights glowing bright red. I like how the color of the lights is picked up by the snow underneath the tree.

We have a continuation of the Mackinac Island Tree Lighting, with a more in depth video from MI Playground guys, Nick and Andy who were invited to stay at Mission Point Resort. The resort is closed in the off-season, but they hosted a group for the weekend to take part in the tree lighting festivities. The Christmas tree lighting is open to the public as folks can make their way over to the Island for the day.

A great set!

That Lake Linden Moon is such a great pic! And looks so very Christmas-y too.

I love all of these pictures. So beautiful.

And that video makes me want to go to the
island at this time even more. It's written
on my bucket list.

Great pics! That second photo is just amazing and
making me wish I was there, driving in that moon
light!

The video is neat too, but and please don't shoot
me... Mackinac Island just isn't for me.

I'm not supposed to be at my desk sitting, my leg is
supposed to be elevated. I feel good, lol
I better end this, I think I hear the Drill Sargent
coming up the stairs, bye for now. :=))

I'm with you U.C., Mackinac Island is a nice place to visit, once. It's quaint and historic but it seems a bit to high brow for me. What's the phrase, hoity-toity? I've never been to Martha's Vineyard but it comes to mind when I think of Mackinac Island. They DO have great fudge though. A similar experience can be had in Munising and especially Grand Marais.

My Covid recovery is going well and I've got a few more days of isolation remaining. Apart from what I think is unrelated bronchitis, my only real complaints are extreme fatigue, boredom and not being able to spend time with my two week old Grandson, Rory.

So glad to get a good update from you guys, DA & UC. And pray it continues on the right track!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 - 03:18 pm:

I’ll second that.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 - 08:03 pm:

Thanks for the well wishes.
D.A. you're cracking me up! When I was on the
island, I felt trapped.. no truck or RV and we
were not staying there. Walking around and
sweating with 8 million other people and I'm not a
shopper, not for me. People who love the island,
God Bless... do your thing, whatever floats your
boat!! Everyone should see it Afterall.... once!
wink wink
I'll take Lake Superior, a diet coke and a two
track out to High Rock, White City, Gratiot Park
or Big Traverse all day long! Of course going by
the farm in Lake Linden to see you know who is a
must stop!! :=))
