Here in the Keweenaw we don’t always have sunshine in the fall, but even on the days that are dreary and darker, Barbara Bouwkamp manages to find some beauty to photograph. She snapped these out in the Big Traverse area. The first two shots are right before you get to the Schoolcraft Township Day Park where lots of folks head on hot summer days to cool off in Lake Superior. The second shot shows Harrison’s Creek, where it flows into Lake Superior. Right now it’s choked off from flowing into the Big Lake, because the wave action has brought in beach sand to close off its access. That can be a big problem in the spring as it backs up there and begins to flood the road.

Barbara’s last two shots are some of the Tamarack trees that line the “sloughs” out at Big Traverse. Their color is still golden, but a bit subdued. I think that’s partly because of the darker day and maybe the needles are changing, getting ready to drop, also. Pretty non-the-less.

If you’re feeling in need of a re-alignment lately, Steve Brimm has just the ticket to help you get back to where you want to be with today’s video. Sit back and let those waves wash over you and revive yourself!

Nice set! Interesting shapes of the rocks in the video that rocks.

there~!

The beauty surrounds us here. Such pretty
pictures. And I loved the video with the
water splashing in the rocks. Awesome!

The first two pictures fall into the 'hauntingly beautiful' category for me! Thanks Barbara!

Beautiful pics and video, quite relaxing, wish I was
there in person. lol

Okay MS.Julie,Jbuck.... why "hauntingly beautiful"
is there more of a story here that needs to be
told?? lol :-)

Ha!! You crack me up, UC!!

Noooo, no hidden meaning! It just seems subdued and wistful and not what is classically called beautiful. The time of year just before everything is covered in white for a few months.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, November 13, 2022 - 07:21 pm:

Jbuck, did you say is covered for a FEW
months? Where do you live? UP here it's
definitely more than a few months. We are
snow covered as I type.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Sunday, November 13, 2022 - 07:26 pm:

Well, i used to live in Marquette! I see a few as 6 or so. It's all relative, just like what people see as beautiful! We are also covered in snow right now - just as i would expect to be in November!

Yep, Julie and I (like most of us) have seen our
share of the white stuff as well, it really started
to get old in April when we wanted just a few warm
days before the term ended lol. I remember a few
white-knuckle rides in April, crazy storms but they
did seem to melt a little quicker too. Today, I seem
to be liking the warmer weather a little more, go
figure. lol
