Saturday evening the Northern Lights came out to dance across the sky. They were early enough, between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m., so Isaac Diener didn’t have to be out there in the early morning hours when the rest of us are tucked in bed. He snapped these Aurora shots near Eagle Harbor, with the last one illuminating the Harbor there and the marina, too. It never ceases to amaze me how bright they are and even though we get to see them around these parts a number of times a year, their appearance is always mesmerizing. I’m always grateful for folks like Isaac that get out there at all hours of the night to capture and share them with us all.

Steve Brimm was out on the same day as Isaac, but during the daylight hours when he videoed tranquility at Copper Harbor. If it wasn’t for the wavering of the tree shadows in the water, you’d almost think it was a still photo.

Thanks for such a beautiful video of Duck Island!

Isaac is such a great photographer!
We have conversed over Twitter about his and my work on capturing the Aurora several times and bounced ideas off each other. Mine from this past July made it on WeatherNation and the NBC Nightly News, and I believe a few of Isaac's have made it on national TV as well. I just wish I was up there to capture more of the Aurora, but the ones I got in July were phenomenal.

These pictures are stunning and the video
was so calming. Wish I'd have known the
northern lights would have been out that
early. I just can't stay awake much past 11.
Anyway, thanks for sharing these.

Great Sand Bay at 2 AM!! lol

WOW! Just stunning.

By D. A. (Midwested) on Thursday, November 3, 2022 - 10:56 pm:

Beautiful!

Four weeks ago I saw them again for the 1st time after 50 years. I was at the mouth of the Gratiot River while hunting YooperLites.

It was partly overcast and all I saw was a single, vertical, white, ribbon and not very wide. I think things were mostly obstructed by clouds, but it counts for today's bucket list.

Everything I've read indicates that unless the Lights are very strong it takes the longer exposure on a camera to pull the green colors out?
