Lake Superior was really Rocking and Rolling around the Blackrocks in Marquette on Monday. We’re treated to some excellent photos from a new photographer to our Pasty Cam pages, Laura Maynard over at U.P. Serenity Photography. She really captured the fury of the Big Lake, making us feel like we were right there witnessing it ourselves, minus the cold wind whipping the spray from the waves at us. There were reports that the waves were around 22 feet and looking at Laura’s shots, that seems about right. For perspective, recall that the rocks on the right side of the first photo are where folks go to jump off into Lake Superior and are somewhere around 15 feet off the surface of the water when the Lake is calm. Yikes!
906 Images was out there filming also and shares the video he made of the manic waters in action there at the Blackrocks at Presque Isle Park. They actually closed the park after 8 p.m. until the storm subsided to keep people safe. 906 Images asks that if you do ever go out in the storms, stay off the main portion of the Blackrocks. It’s an important warning, because folks have lost their lives there during storms like this.

I just love, love, love this....
The biggest waves in Superior get to 50 feet...that's half a football field...that's gotta be so wild...
Very cool pics & video! Yes, there are signs everywhere to stay off during the storms.
MS.Donna, I think you mean 50 yards for a football field, 50 foot for waves would be crazy for sure. :=))

These pictures are so amazing. The lake was rocking here, but the winds were even worse in Marquette. Maybe some day we'll be down there when this happens. Thanks for sharing these. I can only imagine how hard it was to stand out there with the wind blowing like that.

Very stunning sequence.
Reminds me of "way, way back when" I couldn't afford a powerful enough telephoto zoom lens in order to not get me and the camera drenched.
Release the Kraken!

Thank you Laura and 906 for the outstanding pictures!! They do remind me of the October 2017 storm where 2 people from Iron River were swept off Blackrocks and drown.
