It's not just that everywhere they went was new, it's that the old places are gone or changed.
Every time I pass through Houghton, I think to myself Oh!, that's where so & so used to be, that realty office used to be a bar, that coffee shop used to be a bakery, that book store used to be a restaurant and it goes on & on. Only a couple of places are still there and mostly unchanged. Maybe I'm living too much in the past.
It's interesting though, where I live now, people are constantly giving directions to someplace by noting that, it's right next door to where thus & such USED to be.
