It was a beautiful evening for a walk, so Chad Johnson took advantage of the nice weather and walked through Houghton and Hancock with his partner, John. They started out with view of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge from the Hancock side and once they walked across the bridge, another view looking back toward Hancock. In between Chad snapped several shots looking at Houghton and the canal, too. It’s nice to take in the view like this, since I know myself, when I’m crossing the Bridge, I’m usually driving so I can’t really get a good look at things like Chad’s photos show. It’s kind of like the saying, stop and smell the roses, only today we’re stopping to view Houghton and the Lift Bridge.

We’re back in Marquette for today’s video from MI Playground. Nick and Andy’s description of this adventure goes like this: “We are in Marquette for what we are calling adventure dining. This is where we will be pairing an activity with food and beverage. Marquette is known for its amazing outdoor recreation that includes mountain biking, paddling, hiking and more along with a great food and beverage scene with breweries and amazing places to eat. Check it out to learn more about how we found the right food and beverage to pair with our outdoor adventures!”

Great pictures. You definitely had a
wonderful subject. Thanks for taking us
along.

This is so awesome. When we were young, (decades
ago), a bunch of us walked across the bridge. What
a cool experience.

Those guys on MI playground really have a great
time! They know how to do it!

The Portage Lift Bridge is such a unique design.
Simply beautiful engineering.

Great pictures of Houghton!

Have to say virtually none of what they did or where they ate in the video existed when i lived in Marquette. How things change!

By D. A. (Midwested) on Friday, August 5, 2022 - 09:35 pm:

I agree jbuck.

It's not just that everywhere they went was new, it's that the old places are gone or changed.

Every time I pass through Houghton, I think to myself Oh!, that's where so & so used to be, that realty office used to be a bar, that coffee shop used to be a bakery, that book store used to be a restaurant and it goes on & on. Only a couple of places are still there and mostly unchanged. Maybe I'm living too much in the past.

It's interesting though, where I live now, people are constantly giving directions to someplace by noting that, it's right next door to where thus & such USED to be.

The only constant in the universe is change.

By D. A. (Midwested) on Saturday, August 6, 2022 - 12:00 am:

Yes. A very wise man taught me that change is not painful. Only the resistance to change is painful.
