The weather over the weekend made for some interesting events here in the Copper Country. The freezing rain we experienced on Saturday, coated everything in sight with thick ice, including cars, windows, trees, streets and roads in the area. We have photos from four different photographers to illustrate the icy coating, beginning with Taana Blom who snapped a photo of Portage Entry Road looking just like an ice rink. Taana said she was tempted to strap on a pair of skates, even though she hasn’t done so in ages.
That young man in the next two photos is the son of Heather Chosa who happens to be Taana’s neighbor. He didn’t hesitate to lace up his skates and take advantage of the icy road, along with his four-legged friend Axl, who didn’t wear his skates and just ran alongside him. I’m glad the young man wore bright orange, so he was clearly visible to other folks on the road.
Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek shares the next photo of her Hancock home window coated with ice. She definitely had a window without a view. It reminds me of the coating that you sometimes see for privacy on bathroom windows. I bet that Loon on the windowsill is happy it’s on the inside looking out in weather like this.
Check out the icy coating on the branches in the last two photos from Judy Byykkonen. You can see why tree branches break off with heavy ice coatings like this. It adds a lot more weight to the branches when the ice is just as thick as the branch itself. Intriguing and beautiful!
Speaking of ice…Frances Czapski of Photography by Frances hiked in to have a look at the ice at Tahquamenon Falls. She had this to say about the adventure: “A little bit sunny, a little bit snowy - it was a completely magical morning at the Upper Tahquamenon Falls. Watching the water cascade down over the mountains of ice is mesmerizing. “

These pictures are all great! I enjoyed looking at them, reading the story behind them, and look again. And Tahquamenon videos never get old.
Not happy to see snow this morning. We're going back to MN for our twin great- grandson's 1st birthdays. I'm so excited to see them. It's been far too long.

Hi The shots of the young man skating on the road made me smile. Ice skates would have been the thing on the trails of our local nature center early last week. Human feet trampling down the snow to a hard packed surface, followed by thawing, followed by freezing resulted in a kind of anti-grooming.

How cool....skating on the road...and encased beauty in ice. Gorgeousness.

WOW the road looks like the bobsled run at the last Olympics. Maybe the CC can host the next one. Oh to be a kid again with my steel runner sled.

Spectacular frozen condition and view of the Falls.
40 inches of snow then the ice storm. Whew! No mention of drastic power outages? That's always the fear with those ice storms. April can't some too soon.
