Wouldn’t you know it, Barbara Bouwkamp’s hubby Tom was out of town during the two day snowmageddon last week, so she was out shoveling her Laurium walkway, when a neighbor came by with his snowblower to help out and make the walkway wider for her. I’m not sure what the storm total was for Laurium, but just a bit further north in the Keweenaw, they had around 40” from the two days and when that much snow falls, with the wind blowing it around, everything gets drifted in. You can see the drifts in Barbara’s first two photos and then what it looked like after her shoveling and the neighbor’s snowblowing. That’s a long walkway to shovel out and look how high the snowbanks are on either side.
Krista Poirier made a short video of the Calumet Village crew, cleaning 6th street. Someone commented that the Copper Country has snow removal down to a science and you can see that at work in the video. Krista said it’s like a maze trying to get where you want to go when they have those large piles of snow down the middle of the road, ready to be snowblown into the back of large dump trucks and hauled away.

Our folks could teach the world about snow removal.

photos.
Holy wah the snow in that snow cleaning
video.
