Brenda Leigh has been making treks along the Lake Superior shoreline on the eastern end of the U.P. in Brimley. The ice is building up quite well over there and several blow holes have formed. Brenda said they actually form quickly, around two days for the ice to form, then the blow holes start to form and freeze. Once the Big Lake “gets her hackles UP”, then the waves keep splashing through and around these holes. She adds, ‘that they start out with a small opening and just keep building. As the wind picks up, it washes some of them away with the wave action and then a new one forms in a different spot. Brutally cold and windy weather fertilize their growth.’ They must be something to see in person!
Check out Brenda’s video for some live, Lake Superior blow hole action. Stay back so you don’t get wet!

Funny, Mary that you added, "Stay back so you don't get wet." I did film one video but did not post it as I got hit by the wet action and actually screamed. It was funny but in the video sounded like I was being terrorized by something bigger than water. Mother nature is AMAZING for sure. Back at the shoreline yesterday and most of the blow holes are gone or completely frozen over.

I love Brenda's time outdoors because she's always got fun stuff for us to see. Beautiful pictures and that 4th one looks as if there's an animal of some kind hiding out there. But that video was awesome! I hadn't seen Alex's tip to put it full screen before I had already done that. Amazing!
