This past Wednesday saw the Hon. James L. Oberstar in port at the LS&I Ore Dock, getting a load of ore pellets to transport. It wasn’t long after they pulled up to the dock, that the Great Lakes Trader Barge was pushed into Marquette Harbor by the 135 foot Tug, Joyce L. Van Enkevork, also there to pick up a load of ore pellets. Those two entered service together in June 2000 and have been sailing Lake Superior, Huron and Michigan since. You can bet that Danielle Putnam was happy to be there at the Ore Dock to capture today’s photos of the freighter/tug/barge activity. I think her last photo is my favorite, with the added wave splashing up on the rocks, framing the loading process back at the dock.
Danielle also shares a video she made while the Oberstar was at the Ore Dock waiting to load. The pictures were a little deceiving, as it didn’t look like there were any waves, except for the splash in the last photo, but the video shows a continuous chain of small waves rolling in to shore.

Let's loan a few of these bad-boys to the bottlenecked, international ports and show them how to move some freight...UP style.
