We welcome Patrick Thornton as our latest Pasty Camist, with some great captures from a farm west of Chassell that caught his eye. He said he hadn’t noticed many crops being grown, other than hay, so he made sure to grab his camera and get a few shots. Crops growing like this here in the Copper Country aren’t as common a sight as they used to be back in the days when farming was booming, so it’s nice to see!
There was a lively discussion on Patrick’s post about whether this was wheat, rye, oats, barley and even hay was in the mix, but the farmer who’s field it is, cleared it up with the final answer being rye. I also enjoyed some of the comments such as, “Photographer in the Rye” and “Amber waves of Grain”.
Not exactly farming, but gardening...today’s video highlights the Fort Wilkins Community Garden in Copper Harbor. It’s a little longer video (12 minutes), but interesting how their garden works there and what they do to control pests and such.

Yes, beautiful shots of a life that provides for all of us. We are so thankful for our farmers! There would be no way i'd offer an opinion on the type of crop it was!
Thanks Patrick!
