The Pasty Cam is graced with a colorful bouquet of blooms today, courtesy of Gladys Collins and her beautiful West Ishpeming flower garden. I am by no means a botanist, so with the help of the Internet, I think I’ve correctly identified the flowers in today’s photos. I’m not positive on the first and last ones, but I know for sure the second and third flowers are hollyhocks. We have the same color hollyhocks growing in our garden this year, too and I’m waiting for a few other colors to bloom yet. I wonder if anyone still makes hollyhock dolls like we did as kids. In case you’ve forgotten how, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has an instruction page here: How to Make Hollyhock Flower Dolls.
Sit back and enjoy Five Aces Media Upper Michigan Scenery video for July, when Lake Superior is still cold, but the days are warm and long.

I remember as a kid trapping bumble bees in hollyhocks...man, did they get angry.

Greetings from the Keweenaw!!
Good looking pics & video!!
We are setup in Gay at the Dockside Resort, staring at the big lake, it's rough to take!! :) Came in from Grand Marais on H58 to Munising.... Alex told my wife, I wish you could have one more blast on the Wing on that road, it's fantastic!
We'll be here until about 8/15. Cooler weather the rest of the week, the last couple of days were like a sauna!
Mary, I will reach out soon as Vicki has us squared away, lol. Hopefully we can get together for a few hugs & laughs.
Have a great day all.... hate to rub it in... but we're enjoying finally being here in the, Greatest Place on Earth!

I just received a message from Gladys and she said the flower in the first two photos is called Rudbeckia Hirta and is in the black eyed Susan family. The bottom photo is an Echinacea Purple Coneflower. Thanks for the info, Gladys!

Good job Mary!
Yes, the first picture is just as you said: Gloriosa Daisy - Rudbeckia hirta (Asteraceae)! And you nailed the coneflowers too!

You made it UP, UC...enjoy, Dude! And thanks for the sentiment, I wish I could have one more blast on the Wing, as well. "Lord knows I’ve paid some dues gettin’ through...tangled up in blue" (Dylan)
