We had several hot days last week in the Keweenaw, which means the start of the summer season for us Yoopers. Brita Haapala, the lady behind the camera at Brita Caroline Photography, headed out to Great Sand Bay with her kiddos to let them cool off in the waters of the Big Lake. It’s nice to see a sandy beach back there once again. The past few years the shore had been covered in rocks. The ever changing shoreline of Lake Superior.
Brita’s last photo was taken in the box culvert that runs underneath M-26 at Great Sand Bay. Driving along the highway, you’d never know it’s there, but a trip down the stairway and a walk to the left of the stairs, you can’t miss it. Take a look again at the second photo, the water running into the Lake is from that box culvert.
Have you ever heard about the “singing sands” at Bete Grise? In today’s video, Alexis Dahl takes on the challenge of proving if the legend is true and she also learns along the way why some sand is so squeaky in the first place.
