Over the weekend the Northern Lights were dancing across the Keweenaw skyline, coloring and brightening the normally dark winter skies at night. Isaac Diener of Isaac Diener Photography was out with the stars to capture today’s photographs of the Aurora Borealis. The pictures are outstanding, for sure, but until you’ve been able to actually see this phenomenon in the night skies yourself, in person, you won’t experience them completely. It is truly something to see as the lights dance and move across the sky. Although they are not always as colorful as the photos, because the human eye primarily views the Northern Lights in faint colors and shades of gray and white, whereas DSLR camera sensors don't have that limitation.
To round out the beauty of the skies, we have a video from Judy Byykkonen which she titled “Black Creek Music”. Make sure you have your speakers turned up so you can hear the beauty of the scene.

Hi Beautiful pictures, particularly the last two. What you say about the limitations of the human eyes is interesting. I have on occasion seen white streaks, but they could have been just clouds lit with light pollution.
Only once in my life have I seen unmistakable, colorful, northern lights. Mom and I were driving north at night, and around Grayling we started seeing radar-screen green northern lights. At our vacation home outside of Cheboygan, with a clear view of the whole sky down on our beach, it was truly spectacular, with some red and white.

Absolutely gorgeous photos. I love the reflections of the lights on the snow -- how cool is that? Thanks for sharing.
