Calumet Waterworks Park (a.k.a. Bucky’s) is a great place to go to recharge, even in the cold wintry months. Judy Byykkonen goes there often to run her dogs, but also to recharge on a day like this. She said it was so calm and the colors were beautiful. It’s good for the mind and soul to go where there is quiet and peace. That pancake ice is pretty cool (literally), floating out there on the Big Lake like that. With it spread out all over the lake, it looks just a bit other worldly.
Judy’s video was taken a few days earlier, when the wind had blown all the pancake ice to shore and was rocking it back and forth against the shoreline ice. It never ceases to amaze me with Lake Superior, how one day it’s plugging the shore with ice and the next day the wind has carried it out into the Big Lake again.

Always think these look more like doughnuts than pancakes! Thanks Judy!
