A touch of sun helped make these scenes, snapped by Cathy McKenzie, glow! She rightly said that it made for a beautiful start to the day and I wholeheartedly agree. Sunshine always makes the day better, brighter and easier to meet head on and in this case, shows off the golden gateway to the Keweenaw.
The reflections in Cathy’s photos are stunning, too. Especially the ones of the historic Quincy Smelter buildings in Ripley, symbolic that we reflect on the history of the mining era when viewing this scene and then we see the images doubled in the water, reminding us of what our grandfathers did to help shape this area.
We join In The Keweenaw for a look at more golden rays, as a December day comes to a close over the Portage Canal.
