Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat (Paul and Nathalie Brandes) headed out Friday morning to walk around Michigan Tech campus and check out the Winter Carnival completed statues. The first two photos are of the 1st place statue by Phi Kappa Tau over in Hancock next to their fraternity house. These engineering students come through year after year with some amazing work on the statues. Capt. Paul said the second photo of the fish hanging there, reminded him of the joke, “I went ice fishing, but all I caught was ice.”

The next two photos are from the 2nd place statue by Tau Kappa Epsilon. Another one with fantastic detail right down to ice handles on a jug and an icy fire. Again, Capt. Paul said he highly doubted the lady in that last photo was going to get warm. Well, maybe in a couple months, but she’ll have to melt to get warmer.

Today’s video is a unique snow statue indeed. St. Albert the Great Parish right on Michigan Tech’s campus, builds an Ice Chapel each year and they celebrate Mass in there, too. This short clip was videoed live during the service there on Friday.

Looks like those ice fish were hanging around just for the halibut.

What a crappie joke.

The level of detail is just amazing and gets better each year. Very 'cool' video - never heard they had Mass in a snow chapel!

Thanks Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat!

Thanks for the nice pix and a unique video!

Thanks guys!

We had a wonderful time in the Copper Country; the trip back to Texas, not so much. We were supposed to be back around 8pm Sunday, but didn't get back until around 3pm on Monday. The reason: mechanical issues on both planes out of Marquette and Detroit that delayed each flight. While frustrating, I would rather they catch an issue before we're in the air rather than halfway through the flight!

Cap'n Paul:
Sorry to hear about the air travel experience, but …
"… I would rather they catch an issue before we're in the air rather than halfway through the flight!"
Ditto that!

At least it wasn't a Boeing 737 MAX! 😱
