It’s a bit more difficult to visit the Snowshoe Priest this time of year, unless of course you bring your snowshoes. Nancy Haun shares a couple photos from two different days about a week ago. One day that was showing some sun reflecting on the Bishop Baraga and the grounds there and another day that left the Bishop snowcovered. I’m sure in the days of his Ministry to this area, he was snowcovered just like the photo as he made his rounds on snowshoes wherever he went. What a beautiful tribute this shrine is to such a selfless man.
Nancy’s third photo shows a view from the shrine grounds, looking down to Keweenaw Bay where there are a number of fishermen/women out there hoping for a few fish for dinner.
Today’s video is shared by Nancy, who was given permission to do so by Eugene Callejas, who made it with a drone a few years ago. It shows a snowy Bishop Baraga Shrine from above and also some folks snowshoeing at Assinins down below.

The sunlit first picture is beautiful! The third picture looks not so much like fishing shelters on the bay but sharks swimming along thru the ice (ok, at first glance it did!!)

Thanks for the reminder, UC, but totally unnecessary...it's one I'll never forget. And for all the years that I stayed in Baraga, I never visited the Bishop Baraga shrine...my bad.
