Heavy equipment operators began work this week out at Big Traverse, also known as Grand Traverse Bay, to continue dredging the stamp sands that keep washing into the harbor with the waves of Lake Superior. Barbara Bouwkamp stopped and snapped a few photos of the heavy equipment out there, as they were loading and moving sand to a spot near Gay. She said earlier in the week, they had a big scooper type machine in the river, scooping out the sand that had washed into the harbor since this fall, when the dredging all summer came to an end. This work is now being done during the winter months, so that it won’t interfere with camp use in the summer. You can read more about this project here: Dredging Continues.
Today’s video is from Jeff Dennis, who is taking us for a ride on his 2019 Polaris Sportsman ATV, to Little Traverse Bay and beyond, on Lake Superior in Upper Michigan's Keweenaw. Keep your eyes peeled and you’ll see a number of deer and even a rabbit.
