Sharon Bodenus of Upper Peninsula Photography had to go to Marquette this week when the winds had Lake Superior all stirred up. She made a quick stop to check out the waves and lucked out that the local surfers were out there catching some waves. These guys never cease to amaze me and I always wonder how warm those wet suits really keep them. I noticed that they have wet suit “mittens” on to keep their hands from freezing in that cold Lake Superior water. Good thing!
Our thanks today to Don Afman (a.k.a. Midwest Ed), who sent me a video he found that he thought would be a good one to share. Enjoy a trip over the Porcupine Mountains in Ontonagon County, thanks to Don. Breathtaking!

I'm with FJL on this one. I love the use of drones when it's used to show us our beautiful countryside. That video was outstanding!
The pictures are also wonderful. We've been lucky enough to see surfers both up on the. North Shore here in MN and up there around Eagle River. We've also watched parasailers at Superior Point in Wisconsin and then in Marquette the same weekend. So exciting to watch. I always wonder how cold they must be doing that.

Paths I've walked, towers I've climbed, places I've seen...I remember. Thanks for the memories.

I've been to the Porkies several times but I have never experienced the same beauty as in that video. Guess I'll just have to keep going back.
In addition to the cold, these cold water surfers must also contend with a craggy, rocky bottom when they take a spill, unlike a nice sandy bottom in many other ocean areas.
