“Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer”, the Nat King Cole song, was my first thought when Chris Gariepy sent in today’s photos. Not so much crazy, but lazy and hazy with a beautiful sunset as dusk arrives out at Dreamland, on the Bootjack road. The calm of Portage Lake, the pink coloring the horizon and then in the second photo, two ducks swimming by, causing a ripple in the calm lake. Both of these scenes just bring calmness to my thoughts.
Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula Facebook page posted today’s video of the State of Michigan passing under the Portage Lake Lift Bridge with folks in the Houghton waterfront park and kayakers off to the side, watching it go by. Not all that often a bigger boat like this comes through the canal.

"If we're the stewards of the environment, how come we always carry a gun, saw, axe, or fork? There ought to be a way to interact with nature without so many darn utensils."

Hi There are all kinds of ways to interact with the environment without utensils. Today, I used nothing more invasive than a beach chair.

Yes, back to the Stone Age Cave Dwellers of prehistoric times, whose only utensil was a club. NOW THAT'S LIVING. :)
