;;j;j | Kevin Musser's The #1 place on the Internet for information regarding books, in print and out of print, on Michigan's Copper Country. I have been collecting books of Michigan/Copper Country for about 23 years now. I feel I have a pretty good collection of everything that is out there on this subject, but I would be interested in knowing if you have a book I don't have, please e-mail me with the details, if you would like to help me complete my collection. I am very happy to share the information found in any of these books with anyone wishing to further develop their understanding of this wonderful region and time in Michigan History. The books listed cover mainly Keweenaw, Houghton and Ontonagon Counties, a small subset include general books on Michigan which have a large focus on the U.P. or the Copper Country. The list is in no order, maybe one of these days.
If you don't find the book you are looking for
here, then look in the Library of Congress, if it has been printed it is here: The Midwest Book Review is a great resource for publishers all over the Midwest Can't find an out of print book, try Abebooks.com or BookAvenue.com both great sources for on-line out of print books.

New Books in my collection:
Copper Country Postcards, A view of the Past from the Keweenaw Peninsula By Nancy Ann Sanderson, 2005 Keweenaw Country Historical Society, Book Concern Printers, Hancock Have you ever dreamed of having your own Copper Country postcard collection and leave all the work to someone else. Deltiologist (one who collects postcards) Nancy Sanderson has done that for us in this wonderful new collection of full-size, full-color cards from the Copper Country. Proceeds from this sale of this book will help the preservation projects of the Keweenaw County Historical Society. The scenes captured in Copper Country Postcards: A view of the Past from the Keweenaw Peninsula gives a glimpse of what the Copper Country was like in the first half of the twentieth century. The book contains just under three hundred postcards featuring a variety of topics: mining, mills, machines, shipping, the strike of 1913, towns and villages, and a smattering of other images in a miscellaneous section. All of the cars are from her personal collection which is devoted to the postcars of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Nancy Sanderson has been a life member of the Keweenaw County Historical Society since the early 1980's and has been active in the preservation of the area. In 2002 she was awarded the Lauri W. Leskinen Memorial Award by the Society for her role in developing a Commerical Fishing Museum located at the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse Museum complex. Ordering Information: Checks should be payable to Keweenaw Country
Historical Society or KCHS French Canadians in Michigan By John P. DuLong, 2001 Michigan State University Press, Discovering the Peoples of Michigan Series. ISBN 0-87013-582-1 For those interested in their French Canadian Heritage or anyone interested in the social development of Michigan this book makes a great addtion to your library. For those who have followed John's DSS&A website this is one of the many projects John has been up to these past years. Thanks John, great book and don't forget those trains and your website. A History of the Kaleva Knighthood and the Knights of Kaleva By Alfons Ukkonen, reprinted in 2002 by Aspasia Books, first
published in 1998. A reply to a recent posting at the Depot turned up this new book on the history of the Knights of Kaleva. Just arrived into my collection and it looks very informative and interesting. Anyone who has purchased "The history of Finns in Michigan" (below) will surely want to add this selection to their library. This book is available from local Kaleva lodges and Mike Duggan has been kind enough to act as a liaison if you would like a copy of this book. The cost is $15.00 and $5.00 shipping, you can arrange to purchase this book by emailing Mike at mtduggan@comcast.net Thanks Mike for bringing me up to date on the Knights of Kaleva! Calumet, Copper Country Metropolis By Dave Engel and Gerry Mantel, published 2002 by River City Memoirs 5597 Third Avenue Rudolph Wi. 54475 Just recieved a copy of this book from Dave Engel, a regular to this site, thanks Dave for the copy. A very interesting research aid for anyone researching the Calumet area from 1898 until the Copper Country strike of 1913. The book contains many photos, some never before published and the text comes from newspaper articles from the Calumet Evening News and its successor, the Calumet News. You can even find my name in the Acknowledgements, wow someone actually finds this site to be of value. I am sure you can find a copy anywhere in the Keweenaw now or in the near future. History of Finns in Michigan Originally published in Finnish in 1967 by Armas K.E.Holmio, History or the Finns in Michigan, translated into English by Ellen M. Ryynanen, brings the story of the contribution of Finnish immigrants into the mainstream of Michigan history. If you have been waiting for the definitive history of Finns in Michigan, this is IT. A great book for anyone studying the history of the Keweenaw and its immigrants.
