Troops were eventually stationed in Mohawk and this building was the company office for the Mohawk Mining Co. You can see the tents surrounding the area.
This photo was sent by a soldier named Gansser from Bay City, Michigan to his son and reads:
"Webster, dear: This is a fine birds-eye of our Mohawk headquarters and camp. In this office building you would have slept with us, had you come. Up to now it has been quiet enough, you might have come. But this very day real trouble threatens. Love & XXXX Papa"
