There have been a number of outstanding sunset photos coming in this past week, so I decided to declare a middle of the month sunset photo day, since there are never enough end of the month days to feature all that beauty.
We start off today with one from Shawn Malone, over at Lake Superior Photo in Marquette. She snapped this photo one evening while the sun was setting, the bonfire was blazing and the neighbors were skipping stones into Lake Superior. It really doesn't get much better than this folks, really...
Then we move on to a shot by Kathy Archambeau. She was on her way home, crossing the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, when she spotted this sunset, so she immediately took a short detour onto the Houghton Parking Deck to snap this photo. Amazing, with the blazing clouds above the Bridge and reflecting below it too.
Joy Ziemnick captured the third sunset over Lake Superior. She's one of the lucky ones, as she took this photo standing right in her own yard, so that means she gets to enjoy the sun's majestic displays just about every night. Lucky lady.
And finally, our own webmaster-of-ceremonies Charlie Hopper with the sunset last week, the evening he and Edie took Shadow on his final ride. (In case you missed yesterday's Pasty Cam).
We sure do live in a beautiful land! Thanks to all for sharing that beauty with us.

I've only been gone from the U.P. for ten days, and already I miss the sunrises, sunsets and starry skies. Beautiful photographs tonight. Shadow's last sunset ride was a beautiful one.

These are gorgeous sunset photos. I especially love the fire in the sky and Shadow's final ride photos. Charlie and Edie, my heart goes out to you all on your loss of Shadow.

Hi The first photo takes me back to my recnet vacation up north. We had a beachfire the Saturday before Labor Day, complete with toasted marshmallows. The Lake Huron shoreline in front of our vacation home points north and west, so when we're up there we do get to see beautiful sunsets.
At least, we do in the summer. One thing I notice is that the position of the sunset changes; on the 4th of July the sun sets between the pillars of the Mackinac Bridge but over time it moves steadly south and inland, until by fall close-up it's behind a neighbor's house and the trees.

Beautiful photos all, but the last one by Charlie and Edie, broke my heart. Rest in peace, precious Shadow!

These are some of the most spectacular sunset shots this year!
Mary's descriptions run the gamut, from the first with the happy times by the bonfire to the misty memories of Shadow in the last. Life is like that.....

Such stunning photos!!!!!!!Just think...those sunsets are every where EVERY DAY! But these from the UP are special because they're in our hearts. Especially for those who take the time to really SEE them. How much happens for us but we don't really see. Another place in my life is looking over The River but any body of water is special in my book. Thank you good Lord!
