The CopperDog 150 took place last weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from Calumet to Copper Harbor the mushers and dog teams traveled the snowmobile trails. The start of the race on Friday was in the midst of a Keweenaw blizzard and cold temperatures, but that didn’t stop the mushers, the dogs, the volunteers or the spectators. These photos were from Friday, snapped by the photography crew at brockit, inc, showing how blustery and wintry the weather was, with high winds blowing the snow so much you almost lost sight of the dog teams as they were going down 5th Street in Calumet at the start of the race. The weather did improve for Saturday and Sunday, with sunshine and a little warmer temperatures. For more photos click on over to the official CopperDog 150 Facebook page here: CopperDog 150 Facebook page If you’re interested in the results of the races, you can find that on their webpage here: CopperDog 150 website

brockit, inc created a film about the CopperDog 150, that gives you a perfect idea of everything the races are about. “A story of the power of community, the beauty of a peninsula, and how they overlap in an annual dogsled race.” The film was a year in the making, is just over 30 minutes and well worth your time to sit back and enjoy. I wasn’t able to “embed” it here on the webpage, but you can watch it by clicking here: A CopperDog Film

The Great Bear Chase will be taking place tomorrow, March 8th, at the Swedetown Trails in Calumet. Visit Keweenaw shares another wonderful Crossing Place video about the event. For more information click here: Great Bear Chase

Lots of mystical-misty looking pix
and good information and commentary.
Neeto video too.

Outstanding...just outstanding...snow is just

Hi
Those of you who have cope with getting around in
the snow may feel differently, but I love seeing
actual winter for both the dogsled race and the
cross-country ski race. The last time I saw a cross-
country ski race, in SE Michigan, they had to put
artificial snow on the trail.

Those dogs are so cool. Ron really
enjoyed his first time working it
and I'm sure it won't be his last.
