Beth Jukuri knows how to appreciate the beauty of the wintry weather. She bundles UP and gets outdoors in the fresh air, no matter the conditions. In today’s shots she was appreciating the sun peeking out of the storm clouds and headed out on her Hok Skis. I had a hard time picking a favorite, as I love the barn scene, but the reflections of the sun on the river, with the ice beginning to freeze over is a beauty, too. Then there’s the bottom photo, looking all wintry with the perfectly shaped tree all covered in snow and the interesting little cabin-like building next door. So many great scenes, so little space to display them.

Some of the unsung heroes of winter are the road commission workers, those folks that keep our roads plowed so that we can get to wherever we have to go. Let’s take a ride with the Houghton County Road Commission and Adam, from brockit inc, who says in the lead-in to the video: “with a daily snowfall that would cripple most, the HCRC clears 844 miles of roads and 40 bridges with a crew of 36 running 11 graders - and they make it look like... a Tuesday. Give them some love”. Adam told me that this video was approaching 200K views, so it must have already resounded with folks who appreciate the job these folks do for us all!

I love the barn pictures. But I
love old barns. They're so cool
looking. They're all so beautiful,
but I love the river one also.

When we first moved back here,
friends would ask us why we take
so many black and white photos
instead of color. We'd tell them
this IS color, lol.

They are all beautiful.

Decades ago, when I lived in Lake Linden...by the
time the guys got done cleaning up snow...you
couldn't get a teaspoon off the roads. They were
absolutely immaculate at that job. Just
impressive, beyond impressive. My sis's b/f
retired from HCRC..what a job. God Bless every
single one of them....would we be trapped without
those guys..Does anyone know if we got any Ladies
working there?

Deb...hilarious..."They ARE color"...lol...how
true hey...I have a way cool pic I took in the
summer tho...a friend was up and we planned a day
to hit the Harbor...turned out to be a rainy day,
but it was planned..so we went...heading up
Brockway, it was before they fixed the "look out"
and I took a pic there, that looked blah..but when
you uploaded it to your puter, it had a glow
around a tree trunk....it looks black and white,
but you can barely tell the ground cover is green.
It's a beauty!

Nice pix with glimmers of sunlight,
but I just can’t deal with the S-word
just yet. I guess it’s because of the
spectacular fall that we just experienced.
It’s going to take a week or two to get
acclimated to the new season.
But hey…102 days until Spring!!!
