After a dentist appointment and some shopping, Nancy Haun and her hubby stopped for lunch at Culver’s in Houghton, where she snapped today’s first shot from their parking lot. Quincy Hill and a part of Hancock across the canal, with the snow adorning the hill and the town, sure does make for a gorgeous scene.
Her next capture is the Canadian National as it was pulling out of Koppers in L’Anse, with the snow making quite a festive looking photo. Once the lake effect bombarding of snow lets up, it’s much more bearable and pretty.
The remaining two shots are from Nancy’s yard. The turkeys this year have been quite pesky, as you can see, right up on her deck and railing. Then in the bottom photo, there’s one lone deer and a multitude of those feathered birds. We’ve had them sitting on top our large wooden bird feeder and they actually chase the deer out by flapping their wings at them. I remember years back it was kind of exciting to see wild turkeys, because it was a rare occurrence. Now we have three flocks of them, numbering close to 100 total in our field and under our feeders at various times of the day...they take turns roaming between all the neighboring farms and ours.
Not only did Nancy get a photo of the CN leaving L’Anse, she also recorded a video as they were going. It’s a bit shaky at the beginning, but once Nancy got settled there, it straightened out. I so enjoy hearing the horn as they’re crossing a road and it’s also a safety measure for folks to know there is a train approaching.

A cool and unusual set! I love the Deerkeys. And that horn says; “Get the Hello out of my way.”

Near the end of the video, was surprised to see a guy hanging on for that ride. I'll bet he was probably freezing his caboose off!

Good luck UC!!
Those poor lil turkeys...in deeper winter, get ice stuck to their lil legs...they'll stand on one leg while eating, to hopefully warm the other up, but it doesn't look that way....Winters are hard on our critters. But they got SISU!

Nice set today. And yes Mary, it used to be so thrilling to see turkeys. Now they're all over the place. I love the train picture with the white snow and red train. Such pretty contrast. Beautiful!

What a nice smorgasbord of pictures today! Thanks Nancy!
Hope you are resting well after the procedure today, UC! Have to get you well!
She's not doing well. I'm not going to elaborate, but she's having a rough time. My heart aches for her.
