Judy Byykkonen recently took a bike ride over to the Swedetown area near Calumet and spotted what I think is a Great Blue Heron. She was able to snap a short series of photos as it was flying off. Majestic birds, so big and the wing span is amazing when they stretch them out to fly away. The Swedetown ponds are the perfect place to see wildlife like this and virtually right in town, just on the outskirts. It’s also a great place to sit and relax and take in the beautiful, peaceful surroundings without having to drive too far. In Judy’s case just a bike ride away.
MI Playground is taking us on a Walking Tour in Downtown St. Ignace. This time it’s Nick and Marklyn as our guides for the Historic tour. You can actually pick up a “guide” at the Chamber of Commerce and there are scannable codes along the route which provide you with more information about the downtown area. Sounds like a plan!

Such great pictures and how lucky
is she to be just a bike ride away
from nature like that? I love
watching herons.

I bet there was some noise with the take off! I
watched an Osprey take off one time...he was up on
an electric line, dropped down and took off...and
those wings....the sound when he took off...wow...
