Whenever Donna MacIntosh gets “sprung” from her apartment by her friend Cindy (HI LOU!), we can count on some neat views. I think she said that first shot with the trees reflecting in the water, was out at Oscar Bay, outside of Houghton. The exploring didn’t take them too far on this day, because there is quite a bit of construction work going on around town, so they headed up to a favorite spot to take in the views of Ripley and Quincy Hill across the canal. The flag in the second photo must be visible if you’re across the way on Quincy Hill. I’m going to make a mental note to look for it next time I’m over there.

The third photo is of course Quincy Hill, with the Quincy Mine in plain view. Then we get a look at the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, which actually looks kind of small from this angle, compared to when you’re driving across it. And Mont Ripley looking all green, instead of the white we see in the winter months. My Grandson and a number of his buddies, got up early this past week and did a run up the ski hill, getting in shape for the coming football season. Go Lakes!

The bottom photo is Elevation Street in Hancock. That looks almost as steep as Mont Ripley from this view. I wouldn’t want to ride a bike UP that one, unless it was electric assist, to help with the pedaling!

We head to downtown Houghton with Visit Keweenaw for another episode in their Crossing Place series: Cheers to History: The Douglass House Saloon. This establishment is one of the oldest businesses in Houghton, having been here for over 100 years and is affectionately nicknamed, the Dog House. Under new ownership, Tristan Sleeman and family keep the history and popcorn flowing, just like you remember it. Let’s explore the Dog House...

Sweet pix, Donna! I like the aesthetically
pleasing arrangement of the trees along
the canal in the first pic. Someone new
what they were doing.
And the Douglass House Saloon looks
like a nice place to relax and enjoy a
cocktail or two…what do you say UC?
Lots of smiles and hugs.
(I wonder why?)

And I appreciated yesterday’s page
reminding us about Edie…Pasty Central’s
original Queen and her contributions and
struggles. She helped bring us all together
so we could enjoy her legacy, this great
website.
Thank you for her remembrance!
I’m sure she is now residing comfortably
in her heavenly mansion room, that was
exclusively reserved for her.
May our Lord bless her.

Nice, Donna. Always so good to
know you're getting out and
enjoying the sights. Looks like
you had some great views!!

Hi Cindy!!

Yep...the first one was in Oskar Bay...That's a
small lil town, but so beautiful...on the lake
there...AND I found an "erase" button in the photo
thing on my puter...so there's a lot of electric
wires out of there. I believe that was a big
fishing area back in the day.

THEN we ate up on "The Mountain"...what Lou calls
it. lol...and truly..do you get sorta mixed up, up
there! It took awhile to figure out Elevation St.
The Bridge does look small. AND the flag is in the
yard of the only house built up there so far.

People need to grow up and be responsible. There's
way too much loose garbage up there. Take your
garbage home and throw it away there. Or find a
trash can SOMEPLACE....quit throwing it out
wherever you darn well please. That's just
disgusting. (sorry...but I find that horrendous).

And thanks Alex and Deb...it is SO awesome to get
out of here....

Beautiful, classic pictures that we always enjoy seeing nice work
Donna two thumbs up!
I can honestly say in all my years of being in Houghton and passing
through there, I have never been in the doghouse well at least that
dog lol!! Looks like a great place we have to make sure we stop by
there just to see the hundred year plus beauty, I know Vic would
like it.
Yes, Alex, my friend, we would relax there you and me in our
younger years, well… heaven forbid the tales we’d probably tell! :=)

Looking forward to following The Lakes, again this Fall. Taking
special interest in watching, The WRECKER Alex Drew, just destroy
those who get in his way! In other words… FEAR THE WRECKER!!
GO LAKES!! 🏈
