The ORV/Snowmobile trail between Lake Linden and Hancock is open again! Deb Simons and her hubby, Ron recently took a ride with their side-by-side on a beautiful day. Ron was the driver and Deb was the photographer taking photos of places and things they saw along the way. One of the things I’ve always been fascinated with is in Deb’s third photo, the concrete remains of the trestle behind Mason, that allowed one train to pass over another train moving below. I’m not sure when it was formed, but the walls are quite tall and well built, as they are still standing many years later after the trains and mining facilities are both gone from the area.
Deb’s bottom photo is a flower she said was all over on the trail. She had no idea what it was, but found out later it’s called coreopsis or tickseed. Very pretty and I’m sure the butterflies and bees enjoy them. All in all, it looks like they had a great ride, with a number of local historical views along the way.
In The Keweenaw takes us on a different kind of tour with a lighthouse fly-by in Copper Harbor...on a perfectly calm day on Lake Superior.

Thanks for posting these, Mary. After the disappointing year last year, where the trail was closed, it was so great to get out there. My favorite areas are from our house in Lake Linden to up behind Mason because of the old train trestles. We used to hike up there as kids and walk across them all the time. Our parents would have shot us if they knew all the chances we took, lol. I remember putting my ears on the tracks to see if we could tell whether or not there was a train coming. Oh the fun we had. Kids today have no idea the fun you could have outside. But, you couldn't pay me to walk up there now with all the bears roaming around. We even saw a mom and her cub on our last ride. She was huge when she stood up on her hind legs to watch us. Nope, not walking up there anymore. Thankful for the side by side so we can get up into my old stomping grounds.

Nice set,Deb on what looks like a perfect day. Doesn’t get much better than that. Just hoping UC can get UP there to enjoy it this summer.

Deb...BEAUTIFUL pics...way cool!! I had no idea that was all up there. I've been up by the "tracks" but not much further. (of course...I was always on foot)....one time I did find an old stand in the woods up there...it's still a plant stand here. lol...and it wiggles and I have pounded lots of nails in it through the years. And it still wiggles. lol....
I get a letter from the Keweenaw Community Foundation and they mentioned an event called; Houghton High School All-Class Reunion. The info: 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm | BBQ and “Pasty Dinner” at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton. I was wondering if they got their from Pasty Central.
