When these photos were taken, we didn’t have a ton of snow, but just enough to get out there and play a bit. That’s exactly what Beth Jukuri did and she highly recommends it, saying winter makes more sense when you can play outside and it’s always a wonderful way to start her day. I would have to add that it also makes winter go by a little faster if you get out there and keep active, plus you get to see the beauty of the season when you’re outdoors. Beth loves her Hok Skis (the tips are seen in photo #2) and says they’re perfect for going out behind her home, across the fields, along the river. She skis on mostly flat land around where she lives. Hok skis are a cross between snowshoes and skis - they’re wider, similar to snowshoes, but they glide like cross country skis, not quite as fast, yet faster than snowshoeing. They sound like fun.
Don Afman, known here on the Pasty Cam as “D.A. (Midwested)” compiled a neat video looking out at Mont Ripley. Don’s lead in on the video says: “Taken from 74 days of a Michigan Technological University webcam from 9/17/23 to 11/30/23 condensed into a 2:45 minute time lapse (2 seconds per day). It follows the seasonal changes from full green to the ski hill covered in snow. At the end the snow creation machines are operating.” Nice job, Don!

Love the pic of the snowy branch -- it would make a very pretty Christmas card. That IS a neat video taken by D.A. I was wondering why the nighttimes didn't appear, so my guess is that the videos were taken each day at the same time during daylight and not as a 24-hour loop(?)

Berry nice pix, Manilow! I spy a swan in #4. And good job, D.A. I got a little dizzy watching it.

I LOVE the vid. What a wonderful plan~
The Milkweed pods are cool, as is the pine branch too. And the apples make a cool pic. They are all so pretty!

I was going to ask what those Milkweed pods were. Thanks Donna.
Those Hok Skis look a bit like a narrow snow board on each foot. I Googled them.
If you look quickly (or slow it down), you can spot the Ranger III (which rarely travels that far eastward in the Portage canal) and the Isle Royale Seaplane landing.
George, The original source from the MTU web camera DID include night times (yes, a 24 hour recording) but I edited all the dark times out and added the dates. You can actually sense the daylight hours getting shorter.
Your dizziness Alex, comes from a strong wind blowing the camera around a bit.
Hi I think the first photo would make a nice Christmas card. And maybe the third one with the nice red apples. Alec, I when I saw #4 I also initially thought of some sort of odd swan. In the video, I saw the snow came and went until finally around Thanksgiving weekend the snow guns started in. That, like the milkweed pod "swan", was another case of "What am I seeing? Oh, now I get it."

My primary goal in making the video was to show the seasonal change from the end of Summer to the beginning of Winter. Even though there is some Color that lasts much of the Autumn, the Peak Color only shows for a much shorter period. The snow making machines and the various single frame photo bombs were all added bonuses.
