Come November the days get darker with storm clouds and not as much sunshine here in the Keweenaw. We look for the beauty around us to sustain us through those days and Brita Haapala knows just how to do that. Her first photo was snapped just after we received the big snow last week. She said it’s all relative, adding that the ground was white, but the added ten inches of snow predicted overnight never showed up, so it was a good day! Brita also said she takes photos of every sliver of sun that comes along in November...and often wonders in the summer months if it really is that dark this time of year. Yes, yes it is.
Something else that happens in late fall was captured by Barbara Bouwkamp. These are the grapes she has growing and now that the leaves have turned brown and the grapes deep purple, she really likes this color combination. Barbara picked them and made juice... now doesn’t that sound yummy!
We join Alexis Dahl for a look at the Huron Island Lighthouse. Her lead-in to the video says: Three miles off the coast of Lake Superior, you'll find a chain of islands that just might be 2.5-billion-year-old, submerged mountains. This is the story of the Huron Islands, and the Huron Island Lighthouse. Thanks to the Huron Island Lighthouse Preservation Association for supporting this video, and for getting me out to Lighthouse Island!

I love that first picture. It's just so calming. And the 3rd picture is just stunning. Barb's grapes look amazing.

Beautiful Fall/Winter pics!! Very interesting and informative video from Alexis. I don't know, but after watching her, I always feel more informed and how can you not like her bubbly personality!! She's an incredible young lady!!

Hi I like the first of the grape pictures, with the snow. I can't recall the correct German spelling, but the translation is ice wine: it's made from partially frozen grapes and is sweet. I'd think any grape juice made from the grapes in the photos would have concentrated flavor.
Speaking of flavor, I like what my grandma called "spoiled fruit juice": wine. ;>)

Interesting pix and video. I wonder if Capt. Paul knows her or some of the people that she mentioned from MTU???

So much golden...leaves and sunshine and purple.
I need to get to know Alexis so I can tag along sometimes. Views of the Huron Islands are quite accessible at the mouth of the Huron River. The road is even suitable for your Father's Oldsmobile (at least until the snow flies).
