We’re heading to western Marquette County with Fred Koski Photography today. Taking a look at the color over there and a Heron in flight in the first photo. Fred commented about the capture, “Kat spotted it, Apollo flushed it, I shot it”. That made me chuckle, especially the ‘I shot it’ part. It looks like the color is a bit further along in Marquette County, too. I spoke with some folks from Crystal Falls last weekend and they said the color on the way to the Keweenaw was more peak on the way, than it actually is here in the Copper Country.
I found the following information over at the Visit Keweenaw webpage about when the colors will peak around here: “Because of the micro-climate created by Lake Superior and the peninsula’s northern location, the Keweenaw’s fall colors usually peak between the last week of September and the first two weeks of October. Specific Keweenaw locations may vary with Copper Harbor and Isle Royale peaking a bit later than areas farther south.”
An interesting story from Discovering... we join Kristin Ojaniemi to learn about Camp Josh in Ontonagon County, a non-profit that provides outdoor recreational opportunities and education for people who have a disability of any kind. Then we meet up with Michelle Anderson of Keweenaw Wild Bird R.E.C to learn more about bird rehabilitation and see her release a rehabilitated Great Blue Heron that was found emaciated in the Keweenaw.

Hard to pick a favorite but because of the contrast of the greens and bright oranges Variegated Trees gets my vote!
Happy Plaidurday! I'd be there with you Deb, if i could! It would be great to have a Pasty Cam contingent to help break the record!

Happy Plaidurday! It's not nice out. We have had a lot of rain overnight with wind. There was also hail. I'm ready for Plaidurday and we'll see what it's like toward noon. Wish you could join us, jbuck.
The pictures are awesome! I like the second one with the clouds mixed in.

Gorgeous....we do live in God's Country...no question!
I'm so addicted to Discovering...that Camp Josh looks so awesome...and the bird doc in the Keweenaw...that is so wonderful...that Heron couldn't wait to fly...
I’d be there too wearing the Clan Gordon tartan. And I love the pix… I wish I could be there in person.

Way to go Deb! You did it:
HOUGHTON, MI – More than 1,700 plaid-clad people gathered in an Upper Peninsula town today to celebrate Plaidurday by breaking a world record.
The effort was a success. Houghton’s event brought together 1,745 people in plaid.
